When Zuffa/UFC on October 28, 2010 announced that its sister promotion World Extreme Cagefighting would merge with the UFC there were no question who would become the first bantamweight campion ever in the UFC, the outstanding former WEC champion Dominick Cruz.
Dominick Rojelio Cruz was born on September 3, 1985, in Tucson, Arizona. He wrestled in high school and at the age of 19 Cruz began training MMA. He began his professional MMA career fighting in the ”Rage in a Cage” and ”Total Combat” organizations. Cruz went on winning his first 9 fights, without having a real fight camp, before getting signed by WEC.
In his first fight in the WEC he competed in the featherweight division, a title fight against Urijah Faber. Cruz lost by guillotine choke in the first round. That´s Cruz first and only lost. After that fight Cruz went on and has won his las eight fights and became the undisputed bantamweight champion. Cruz is currently ranked by several MMA-experts as top-10 ”p4p”-fighter.
Now almost three years after his loss against Urijah Faber, Cruz has the opportunity to avenge his one and only loss in his otherwise perfect MMA-record. And Kimura.se had the great honour to follow Dominick Cruz on his last seven days before his fight at UFC 132.
