Ronaldo ’Jacare’ Souza förlorade mellanviktsbältet 2011 när han mötte Luke Rockhold i Strikeforce. De står nu båda med lika många vinster i UFC och Rockhold är nu mästaren efter att han tog bältet från Chris Weidman under UFC 194.
Souza kommer härnäst att möta Vitor Belfort under UFC 198, men berättar att hans tankar inte kretsar kring en revansch mot Rockhold, utan enbart chansen att få ta hem bältet.

To fight for the belt is my ultimate goal. It’s where I want to get to. I think this fight accredits me to get that title shot. I don’t see it going any other way. My main focus is getting to that title shot.
My goal is to get the belt. I’m not focusing on any specific fighter. My goal is to win this fight and fight for the belt.
I admired his way of fighting, but he wasn’t exactly a role model. I think, obviously, he has the advantage on the feet and I have the advantage on the ground. It’s where I’m the most comfortable. That’s what this fight is going to be about. It’s going to be about who can impose their game and dictate where the fight goes. I’m sure he’s going to be very well prepared to go either way the same way I am.
