Jon Jones stod tidigare inför ett eventuellt fängelsestraff som kunde bli upp till tre år långt, efter att han bland annat misstänktes för smitning och stöld. Han fick senare lämna häktet efter att han betalat borgen på 2500 dollar.
Den pensionerade fightern och UFC-kommentatorn Kenny Florian tycker att Jones slipper undan för lätt och att han inte längre ska få gå matchen mot Anthony Johnson under UFC 187 och bli fråntagen sin titel i lätt tungvikt.
Det här berättade Florian, via ”MMAJunkie”:
I think stripping him of the title is appropriate if, of course, these allegations are true.
Florian berättade sedan att UFC har försökt få tag i Jones, som man just nu tror försöker undvika kontakt.
If this is true, there’s some kind of problem going on. He needs help, and it needs to be legitimate help; he’s not getting away for 24 hours.
Jones åkte tidigare i år fast då han testade positivt för kokain innan UFC 182. Han fick då böta 200 000 kr och spenderade en natt på rehab.
Florian tycker att man måste våga dela ut hårdare straff när incidenter som dessa inträffar:
You screw up, there’s repercussions. You screw up, there’s repercussions and a possible fine.
I don’t think he should be allowed to fight Anthony Johnson. He needs to go and get help. I think that the UFC is probably most likely to find a replacement for Jon Jones at this point, and I think that’s probably what’s going to happen if these allegations are true.
He has so much talent, but there’s a lot of immaturity with that talent.
