Al Iaquintas klagomål om UFC har under de senaste veckorna fått stort utrymme inom MMA-världen. Enligt en högt uppsatt UFC-representant så är hans ilska dock missriktad. Den anonyme representanten uttalade sig som följande till MMAjunkie:
The stories he’s telling are not true. The Premise for his whole beef is not accurate, and I think he’s trying to justify the fact that he thinks he should still get the bonuses.

Iaquinta, 30, rider just nu på vågen av en fem-matchers vinstsvit och är nummer 15 på USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkies senaste ranking för lättviktsdivisionen. Förra månaden så återvände han till buren efter två års frånvaro och besegrade på ett minst sagt övertygande sätt den framtida UFC Hall of Fame fightern Diego Sanchez via knockout efter endast 98 sekunder.
Trots sin imponerande prestation så blev inte Iaquinta (13-3-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC) tilldelad en fightnight bonus vilket ledde till att han gick ut i vredesmod i media och attackerade UFC i en tirad full av svordomar.
Iaquinta förlorar möjlighet till bonus
MMAjunkie bekräftade med UFC representanter att matchen mot Sanchez var den första av tre matcher där Iaquinta förlorar rätten att tilldelas en fight-night premie på 50 000 dollar. Beslutet är grundat på tre olika incidenter där Iaquintas beteende varit oacceptabelt.
Först så förstörde han ett hotellrum i MGM Grand i Las Vegas efter sin seger mot Joe Lauzon vid UFC 183. I sin nästa uppvisning svor han i nationell tv när han ilsket tilltalade en aggressiv publik då han kontroversiellt just tilldelats segern mot Jorge Masdival genom ett delat domslut. Den slutliga kontroversen som tillslut fick UFC att agera kom då Iaquinta inte dök upp vid ett UFC-fighter toppmöte i Las Vegas 2015. Iaquinta insisterade på att han tydligt varnat företaget att han inte skulle närvara men UFC-representanter hävdar bestämt att så inte är fallet. Den tidigare nämnde representanten fortsatte sitt uttalande till MMAjunkie med följande:
His story about the summit, the part that he left out was that he never called us to tell us he didn’t get on the plane. He never called us to tell us not to send a car to the airport to pick him up. We had all these arrangements for the hotel. All these things were arranged, and he never bothered to call us to tell us he wasn’t coming, which I think would make anyone mad.
We sent a car to the airport to pick him up, and he wasn’t there. He never called us to say, ‘I’m not coming.’ Not calling us, not telling us that he wasn’t going to show up, having to send a car to the airport to pick him up, literally, and him not being there – how immature is that? To not call and say, ‘I didn’t make the flight. I’m not coming.’ It’s immature.
Iaquinta borde vara mer tacksam mot UFC
Iaquintas frånvaro berodde dels på hans frustration med organisationen och sitt missnöje gällande hans kontrakt, men en knäskada bidrog också till hans frånvaro från sporten. Allt detta komplicerade hans relation med sina arbetsgivare där Iaquinta tillslut kände sig tvungen att offentligt be UFC att täcka kostnaderna för knäoperationen. Den anonyme UFC representanten kommenterade detta med följande:
It was a chronic injury, and since it was a chronic injury and not something that happened while training or fighting for us, the insurance denied it. There were also a number of alternatives that could have been done that would have been covered, but Al insisted on using a specific surgeon back east. The UFC paid tens of thousands of dollars to cover that out of our pocket without any obligation to do so since it was a chronic injury, which means it happened over years and years and years.
Mr. Iaquinta never once called the medical team or (UFC President) Dana (White) to say thank you. Instead, he talks about how he had to beg for it, which is not true. … We agreed to do it. We paid for it. The entire medical team assisted through his surgeon getting this done and getting it paid, and Al never once called anyone to thank them. Instead he goes out on the Internet and says he had to beg for it, which is absolutely, 100 percent false. That’s a lie.
Iaquintas manager Dave Martin har inte kunnat nås av MMAjunkie för någon kommentar om detta. Hur Iaquinta kommer välja att agera nu är osäkert. Efter sin imponerande seger mot Sanchez vid UFC 108 så uttalade sig den hetlevrade New York-sonen att han inte var säker på om han ville fortsätta fightas när han kunde tjäna samma slags pengar inom hans allt större byggnadsinvesteringar.
Med ett facit på 8-1 i sina nio senaste medverkanden i UFC så går Iaquintas talang inte att förneka, men det är uppenbart att hans kontroverser inom promotion har orsakat allvarliga tvister och problem för hans karriär. Den anonyme UFC-representanten ville slutligen tillägga följande:
Dana, (former UFC co-owner) Lorenzo (Feritta) and our team worked for weeks on this thing and were able to get him the surgery, and it was successful; instead of thanking us, he goes on the Internet and taunts Dana, who paid for it. I think when Al learns to take responsibility for his actions, he’ll be a lot better off as a person.
Vad som sker under kommande tid gällande Iaquintas karriär är i nuläget svårt att förutspå.
