Svenske superstjärnan Alexander Gustafsson skulle ha gjort comeback under maj. Men då den nystartade organisationen GFL ställde in sitt första event så var statusen på svenskens framtid osäker. Gustafsson öppnar nu upp om att gå en match i en annan kampsport.
Alexander Gustafsson skulle ha gjort comeback
Svenske MMA-fightern Alexander Gustafsson har inte gått match sedan sommaren 2022. Svensken han totalt gått tre titelmatcher i UFC och gett legender som Jon Jones och Daniel Cormier några av deras karriärers tuffaste matcher. Senaste åren har dock varit tuffare för Gustafsson som har fyra raka förluster. Under fjolåret så lämnade han UFC för att istället söka lyckan i den nystartade organisationen Global Fight Leage (GFL). Organisationen skulle ha anordnat sitt första event under maj och Gustafsson skulle då ha mött UFC-veteranen Ovince Saint Preuix. Eventet ställdes dock in och det är oklart om organisationen någonsin kommer att anordna en gala. MMAJunkie rapporterar att Gustafsson under en intervju berättat att han inte vet statusen på GFL:s framtid. Han menar på att han är öppen för andra erbjudanden.
”I’ve been training. Now I’m just waiting to see what they say and take it from there, I don’t know the status of the GFL. I’m just hoping they get it sorted. Am I confident? I don’t actually know. Let’s see. I’ll be training. I’m in camp, so I’ve been training, but let’s see what’s next for GFL. Having said that, if anyone else gives me an opportunity to fight, then I’m open to discussing it. Let’s see what happens. With the GFL, I don’t know what the concept is really now, but they pay very well and I think it’s a great idea if it can go ahead.”
GFL:s inställda gala skulle också anordna en match mellan publikfavoriten Tony Ferguson och den omtalade Dillon Danis.
Öppen för match i annan kampsport
Vidare så berättar svensken att han är intresserad av att gå en match i Bare Knuckle Boxning för organisationen BKFC. Gustafsson menar på att han diskuterat möjligheten kring BKFC i hans team. Gustafsson menar på att han absolut i någon form kommer att gå match under 2025 och att han tränar för fullt och är i bra form.
”I’m absolutely interested in fighting in BKFC, ’m in shape. Let’s see what offer I get. I would talk it through with the team and see what the best move is. I haven’t personally spoken to BKFC or Conor McGregor, but there have been discussions within my team about it. I don’t have much to say on it. I’m just focusing on my training and whatever happens, happens. I’ll be ready for whatever we decide to do. Will I fight this year? Absolutely. I hope that if I get the right offer, I’ll be back 100 percent.”
