The Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP) ber Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) att vara försiktiga i förhöret gällande den begärda ändringen av handskarnas storlek i boxningsmatchen mellan Conor McGregor och Floyd Mayweather.
I ett brev från ARP till NAC som skickades under tisdagen skriver ARPs Board Chairman Dr. Raymond Monsell att matchen redan har blivit bestämd att ske i en specifik viktklass som kräver 10oz handskar enligt NACs regler. Under mötet på onsdagen kommer Mayweather och McGregors team begära en ändring till 8oz handskar. Såhär skriver Monsell:
Unless there is scientific evidence to support the view that such a change might improve the safety of the bout, we should strongly caution against allowing current regulations to be over-ruled. To do so would also set a precedent for future bouts.
NACs VD Bob Benett sade till MMAFighting för två veckor sedan att det är möjligt att få till ändringen om NACs röstar igenom förslaget.
They would have to come before the commission and articulate why they should be permitted to have their fight using 8-ounce gloves. The chairman (Anthony Marnell) and commissioners would make the determination with the health and safety of the fighters being the number-one priority.
Mayweather sade under förra veckan att han försöker ge McGregor ett övertag genom att göra handskarna mindre eftersom McGregor har 4oz handskar på sig när han går match i UFC. McGregor svarade att han inte bryr sig om storleken på handskar men att han kommer knocka Mayweather inom de två första ronderna om de har 8oz handskar.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe sade såhär under förra veckans öppna träning.
Both guys have agreed that they want to fight in 8-ounce gloves. Both guys are looking to knock each other out. The smaller the gloves, the better. Conor is used to fighting in 4-ounce gloves, Floyd is used to fighting in 8-ounce gloves.
I think it’s a good thing. I think with the mindset that both guys have, they’re looking to knock each other out. … This isn’t a game or anything. If the commission approves it, both guys will be wearing the same ounce gloves. I think the probability increases if both guys are wearing 8-ounce gloves that somebody is getting knocked out.
