Josh Emmett har väntat på en bra matching efter hans knockout-vinst mot den topprankade lättviktaren Ricardo Lamas. Först hade han tänkt erbjuda Lamas en re-match, men det blev aldrig av och efter Brian Ortegas fantastiska vinst mot Cub Swanson så riktades ögonen dit. Enligt honom själv var en match mellan han och Ortega tänkt som huvudmatch på Orlando-kortet men Ortega ska ha sagt nej.

I just got some bad news like just, thirty minutes ago. The UFC was actually putting this fight together [with Brian Ortega]. Ortega and I were supposed to fight. We were going to headline a fight on another huge card and he will not fight me. He turned it down. He flat out said he will not fight me. I have no idea [the reason]. He just will not fight me. We were going to headline the UFC Orlando card. Main event on FOX.
I definitely know he knows I’m a worthy opponent. His best friend is Jon Tuck, which I’ve fought and he’s a great guy. A good friend of his is Christos Giagos, that I fought as well before I got into the UFC. I don’t know, I think he just knows [it’s a risky fight]. It’s a risky fight for me too, every fight is. I want to be a champion, he wants to be a champion. I’ve said it before, you’ve got to beat the best to be the best. I just don’t get it. I literally just got the news like twenty to thirty minutes ago. I was driving home, so I’m just a little frustrated. For whatever reason, he doesn’t want to fight me, hopefully they can schedule it a little later down the line. I think that’s the fight that needs to happen.
Brian Ortega är obesegrad med 13 vinster och nu senast sin imponerande submission-vinst över Cub Swanson. Detta gör att han förmodligen knackar på dörren för att få nästa titelchans efter Frankie Edgar vilket kan ha haft en påverkad till beslutet att tacka nej. Men detta är något som bara Brian Ortega själv vet.
