Den forne tungviktsmästaren, Cain Velasquez, har inte tävlat på över ett år, senast han sågs i buren var i juli 2016, där han besegrade Travis Browne vi en teknisk knockout.
Velasquez skulle ha mött Fabricio Werdum på UFC 207 i december. Det mötet blev inte av eftersom Nevadas atletiska kommission inte gav Velasquez licens att tävla eftersom han hade en ryggskada som krävde operation.
Velasquez opererade sin rygg i januari, men han har fortfarande inte tävlat sedan dess. American Kickboxing Academy’s huvudtränare, Javier Mendez har nyligen uttryckt att Velasquez avbrott har blivit förlängt på grund av att operationen inte har gått helt enligt plan, detta rapporterar Dailystar:
The surgery has not gone the way it was supposed to have gone. So, we’ll see with time, But Cain has been spending time with his family and doing other things. He comes in here once in a while.
He’s not back training yet. But he didn’t pull out, the fight was pulled from him from the state athletic commission.
Mendez säger även att Velasquez inte har tappat motivationen och är fortfarande lika driven som han var innan skadan:
He’s not lost the desire to fight, he’s just waiting for some time, spending time with the family and doing other things he loves. He loves doing acting, movies and all that type of stuff. So anything involving the film industry, he loves that stuff. And anything in the car industry he loves.
But the number one thing is his family. So those are the things he’s focused on now. When his body is 100-percent healthy and his mind will be intact with that healthiness, then he’ll be ready to fight.
Det är oklart om och när Velasquez förväntas vara redo att tävla igen.
