Chael Sonnen laddade upp ett klipp på sin youtubekanal där han pratade om Dustin Poirier. Poirier som länge varit en central figur i lättvikten har på senare tid hamnat i en del bråk och schismer, mest uppmärksammad är den som ledde upp till matchen mot Michael Chandler (23-8). Sonnen menar på att Poirier gör detta medvetet för att få uppmärksamhet, för att uppnå en stjärnstatus likt den Conor McGregor har.
Sonnen påstår att Poiriers inställning åsidosätter hungern för bältet. Att han istället fokuserar på det utanför buren snarare än det innanför.

Sonnen förtydligar att han inte menar något illa med sitt uttalande, att Poirier redan haft ett bälte och att han nu istället satsar på andra saker inom sporten.
He wants to do superfights. He wants to do massive fights and the title be damned. He’s already got one. He’s got one sitting in his mantle at home. He will go down in the record books if he never fights again as a champion of the world, which he was. He wants to go into this different realm.
