Fabricio Werdum var än en gång i centrum i en kontroversiell situation utanför buren. Den här gången med den kontroversielle welterviktaren Colby Covington. Werdum ses kasta en påse med ett innehåll likt en boomerang på Covington. Det hela skall ha börjat redan i hotell-lobbyn där Covington skall ha kallat Werdum för ett ”brasilianskt djur” varpå handgemäng hade utbrutit. Enligt brassen skall Covington ha sparkat honom.
