Ryan Hall (8-1) är mest känd för sin fenomenala grappling, men i helgen var det hans stående färdigheter som gav honom domslutsvinsten när han vid hela två tillfällen ’droppade’ den tuffe Darren Elkins (24-8).
Nöjd med hur det gick
Trots att Hall inte lyckades avsluta Elkins så är han nöjd med hur det hela gick. Det var ganska ensidigt, säger Hall till BJPENN.com.
“I think it was completely and utterly dominant. He accomplished nothing in the fight, and Elkins is a tough guy. We clearly won the striking, and the only shots he landed were kicks to my legs on the ground and then maybe a body kick. I dropped him a few times and he elected to not pursue the fight on the ground. For it being a who got things done perspective it was one-sided.”
Udda stil
Trots vinsten så var det en del fans som under matchens gång buade, men Hall berörs inte speciellt mycket av det. Han vet att hans stil är udda och säger att många inte förstår vad det är han gör.
“Nobody understands what I am doing. So, no I was not surprised.”
Hall förklarar det vidare:
“I mean people keep saying weird. Is Israel Adesanya weird? Is Stephen Thompson weird? They are just better than everybody. So, if their style is weird, then maybe what everyone else is doing is not correct. I don’t know who defined what orthodox is. If everyone is so successful doing what they are doing then they should keep doing it. All I can say is people have described my style as weird, but I am the one hitting them and they aren’t hitting me. When Stephen Thompson and Lyoto Machida first got into the UFC they were weird and karate was stupid, now we like karate. Nothing is weird if it works.”
Aldrig tackat nej
Hall vill gärna gå ytterligare en match under 2019 och tycker att galan den 7:e december skulle passa honom perfekt. Tillsammans med en motståndare rankad top-10.
“I want to fight December 7 in my home city of Washington, D.C. against someone in the top-10. It would be neat to not fly anywhere and I would be in a cage against someone that matters, just like my last three or four opponents. Just continue to get better and do my best against the top guys.”
Han är ganska öppen med vem motståndaren blir så länge det är någon av de bästa i divisionen.
“I guess we will have to find out. But, all I can say is I have never turned down a fight and have been turned down on numerous occasions. I am looking to fight the best and most challenging people there is and that is not going to change.”
