Det verkar som att huvudmatchen på den kommande UFC-galan i London kan stå mellan två topprankade mellanviktare, nämligen Darren Till och Jack Hermansson. Detta enligt Hermansson själv. Tidigare pekade det mot att galans huvudmatch skulle stå mellan Till och den tidigare mästaren Robert Whittaker, detta blev dock inte av då Whittaker istället ryktades ställas mot Jared Cannonier.
Det var i en intervju med MMAJunkie som Hermansson berättade att UFC i nuläget försöker få till en match mellan honom och Till. Han anser även att det är en match som passar honom bra.
For me, the fight that makes sense in Europe would be Darren Till because he’s also high ranked, just as me. He’s pretty fresh in the weight class. I think the fans want to see him against a couple of more opponents. He had a great performance in his last fight with Kelvin Gastelum, so I think that’s a name that sticks out and a name that I would love to be fighting. And to be doing it in Europe, especially in his home country, I think that would be the perfect arena. We’ve been talking to the UFC and they agreed that it could be a good fight over there, so we’ll see what happens. We’re just early in the talks and hopefully we can start a process and make the fight happen.
I sin senaste match förlorade Hermansson mot Cannonier i huvudmatchen på UFC Köpenhamn vilket han själv anser var på grund av att han var förutsägbar.
When it got closer to the fight, the thoughts in my head were taking over where I wanted to really, really take him down. And that’s always, of course, one of the goals in my fights. But in the preparation that we did for this fight, we knew that he would prepare for that very well. So we were actually focusing a little bit more on the standup game. But I didn’t manage to execute the game plan. The standup got a little bit sloppy because I had the takedown and the ground game in my mind all the time. So I think that made it too obvious what I was going to do, and he was able to counter and take advantage of that. So I really learned something from that fight, and I think I’m going to be a little more reactive and in a more slow state of mind next fight.
Till sist nämnde även Hermansson att han ser fram emot att möta Till och att han ser det som en intressant match.
I have a little bit of a different stature than Gastelum, a little bit of a different style. Darren Till is a southpaw. I’ve been fighting a lot of southpaws before, so it’s going to be interesting to go back to the drawing board and apply a little bit more of those techniques against a southpaw. I think it would be an interesting fight between us. Till likes to come forward, I like to come forward – so I think it’s a good clash of styles.
