Nick Diaz blev tidigare bestraffad med 5 års avstängning efter att han för tredje gången åkt fast för cannabismetaboliter i ett dopningstest innan UFC 183. Före detta bantamviktsmästaren i Bellator, Joe Warren, har varit med om en liknande händelse när han 2008 på grund av en avstängning för cannabis missade sin chans att komma in i det olympiska brottningslaget.
Warren anser dock att Diaz enbartt har sig själv att skylla för det som har inträffat.

That’s terrible for him. It’s a law, though. I’m the first one to say, you break a law, you’ve got to deal with it.
He’s done it three times, and there’s offenses after the first offense. So we all know this. It sucks that they’re doing this because of THC – it’s not a performance-enhancing drug, and it’s legal in most of the states that we live in. But it’s the law, and he knows it, and we all know the law. It sucks.
Those guys are as tough as they get, so they have first offenses, where they give you opportunities to make amends and move forward with it, and the second offense, they double your sentence, and the third offense, usually they do a lifetime ban.
