John McCarthy: Poängdomarnas placering runt buren ger dåliga domslut
Under den senaste veckan har MMA-sportens poängdomare stått i fokus. Nu har domarprofilen John McCarthy gett sin förklaring till varför det äger rum så många omdiskuterade domslut i UFC.
John McCarthy: Två poängdomare sitter vid burens dörrar
McCarthy är en sann domarpionjär inom MMA-sporten och var med redan i samband med UFC 1. Efter många år som den tredje mannen i buren arbetar McCarthy nu som expert för Bellator MMA.
Efter ett antal omdiskuterade domslut i samband med den gångna helgens stora MMA-galor har diskussionen om poängbedömning återigen blossat upp.
McCarthy hävdar att UFCs placering av poängdomarna är en del av problemet. Enligt profilen sitter två av domarna i nära anknytning till burdörrarna, vilket skymmer fri sikt in i buren.
Take a look at the UFC. the cage and the way that they situated because they’re the ones that decide where the judges sit. You have two cage doors on the octagon. The judges sit in those two spots are two of the judges’ chairs. Which means that you’re looking through a gate which has extra poles and you’re looking through more poles that are up and down.
Vidare menar McCarthy att bedömningen kommer se annorlunda ut om UFC placerar ut domarna på andra platser runt buren.
It’s not easy to see things and then you’ve got the referee moving in front of you at times. You give one judge a good seat. One, that’s where you see the ring card girl sitting, there’s one judge sitting there. That judge has a good clear view. Other than that, the other two judges get s*** seats. You want better scores, change it. Because you should.
McCarthy drev tidigt frågan om att införa fler regler inom sporten för att öka fighters säkerhet. Flera av dessa förslag är nu inskrivna i Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts.
