Jon Jones var en av de många åskdådarna vid nattens UFC 241 där Daniel Cormier satte sin tungviktstitel på spel när han mötte Stipe Miocic i huvudmatchen.
Cormier hade förra året besegrat Miocic via knockout i första ronden vid UFC 226 och blev då den blott andre att någonsin vara mästare i två UFC-divisioner samtidigt.
Efter en stark inledning för Cormier och två jämnare ronder fick Miocic en andra andning i den fjärde ronden och kunde avsluta mästaren via TKO.
UFC:s regerande lätt-tungviktsmästare Jones, som har ryktats gå match mot ärkerivalen Cormier under den senaste tiden, valde efter matchen att ta till Twitter för att uttala sig om nattens match:
Stipe is hands down the greatest heavyweight of all time. I have nothing else to say.
Now can we stop playing games with these pound for pound rankings already.
I guess losses don’t matter when you’re getting paid so much on the front end.
Efter matchen blev Cormier intervjuad av Joe Rogan och hade följande att säga enligt BJPenn.com:
I think he made a great adjustment, like you said with the body shots. He hit me with a number of right hands and I didn’t really feel anything. So I may have taken those for granted. He landed a great one (right hand) and then did a great job of following up. He’s a fantastic champion and congratulations to Stipe and his team.
Rogan frågade sedan Cormier om han nu kan lägga handskarna på hyllan:
You know, you don’t make decisions based on emotions. But, it is a tough pill to swallow. And uh, at forty years old, you know, with so many other opportunities. I need to speak to my wife and we need to make an educated decision as to what we are going to do.
