Under helgen som gick fick lättviktaren Justin Gaethje se sig besegrad av den regerande mästaren Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nu vill dock Gaethje gå en ny match om UFCs lättviktstitel.
Efter att ha besegrat Justin Gaethje (22-3) under helgens UFC 254 meddelade Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0) att han går i pension från MMA. Nu berättar Gaethje att han anser sig vara rätt person att gå nästa match om UFCs lättviktstitel och han utmanar den tidigare mästaren Conor McGregor (22-4).
Utmanar McGregor
Under en intervju med UFCs egna Megan Olivi berättade Gaethje att han i och med Nurmagomedovs pension är att se som nummer ett i UFCs lättvikt. I och med detta erbjuder han en titelmatch till McGregor, om denne vill dra sig ur sin planerade match mot Dustin Poirier (26-6).
With Nurmagomedov retiring, I’m No. 1. Dustin Poirier and McGregor are going to fight. They haven’t made it official, so if McGregor wants to bounce out and get the belt, I’m right here.
Redo på kort notis
I och med att han blev utstrypt och inte knockad så anser Gaethje att han kan ta en match på kortare notis än om han blivit just knockad.
Being choked out is a nice little dream, and then it’s on to the next one. I took probably two or three shots, big shots to the head. When you get choked out, I’m not a doctor, but I believe there’s not any serious consequences to that, and I love it. And there’s a belt on the line now.
Nurmagomedovs pension
Gaethje kommenterade även den tidigare mästarens pension och berättade att han hoppas att Nurmagomedov har tänkt över beslutet. Gaethje själv anser inte att ett sådant beslut bör tas i oktagonen efter en match.
I hope that’s something that he really thought about. I don’t believe anybody should be making decisions like that right in the cage after a fight. It’s such an emotional time, win or lose. Him especially, with the loss of his father. I can’t begin to imagine, and I don’t want to imagine, what he was going through. But as soon as the fight was over, I went over to him and said he made his father proud, and he did.
Gaethje avslutade med att han är okej med om UFC väljer att ge titelmatchen till någon annan än honom själv men att han är redo för en ny match.
If they want to give it to someone else, so be it. But I’m ready. I’m ready to fight again. This is my job. This is my life, and I love it so much.
Gaethje besegrades av Nurmagomedov via submission under UFC 254 som ägde rum i Abu Dhabi, Förenade Arabemiraten.
