Nyligen påstod UFCs president Dana White att Justin ”The Highlight” Gaethje (21-2) blivit erbjuden flertalet matcher av organisationen som lättviktaren inte accepterat. Nu har Gaethje svarat UFC-bossen och förmedlar att han inte vet vad White talar om. Gaethje tar sig an att lista alla de matchningar som diskuterats med honom och ger anledningarna till att de inte blev av.

Kommentaren från White som tycks ha förbryllat Gaethje föreslår att han inte är villig att gå matcher i nuläget.
We’ve offered Gaethje a lot of fights that Gaethje hasn’t taken.
”The Highlight” tycks dock ha en annan syn på det. I en intervju med Sirius XM under gårdagen gav han sitt perspektiv på varför de diskuterade fighterna inte blivit av.
I’ve been trying to figure out what he’s been talking about. I know when he did that interview not too long ago, he kept saying ‘Justin Gaethje knows what I’m talking about what’s going on, he knows what’s happening.’ I literally had no idea what he was talking about, so it’s pretty crazy. I’m pretty sure it was, they offered me I think Tony Ferguson when Tony Ferguson fought Cowboy (Cerrone) in June and they were looking for a replacement in that fight at the end of May. I told them that it wasn’t enough time, but if they pushed it back a little farther I would take that fight then they turned (the offer) down. Then they asked if I want the Tony fight on the (Sept. 7) Abu Dhabi card and I said yes and he said no so I took the Cowboy fight the week after that.

Dock såg han inte mycket reson i de matchningarna då varken mästaren Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0) eller den återvändande Conor McGregor (21-4) hade några motståndare vid tillfället då matcherna erbjöds.
Just recently, they offered me Charles Oliveira in Brazil or Dan Hooker in New Zealand, all while the champion didn’t have a fight, McGregor was coming back and still looking for a fight. As far as I know, that’s what the deal is.

Tidigare under året uttryckte Justin Gaethje en ilska och frustration över Whites uttalanden om att Conor McGregor kommer få nästa titelutmaning i lättvikt om han besegrar ”Cowboy” Cerrone nu i januari. Ansedd sig vara orättvist behandlad likt han blivit skjuten åt sidan till fördel för ett returmöte mellan Nurmagomedov och McGregor tog han till Twitter och fördömde Whites uttalande. Nu tycks Gaethje dock ha förståelse för Whites position och föreslår att UFC-presidenten inte har något val i saken. Beslutet om ett returmöte har fattats av folk över honom, menar lättviktaren.
He has people above him, telling him to put the fight together, this is the fight that’s going to make the most money, I’m sure, just looking from the outside in,” Gaethje said. “So I’m guessing why he’s saying those things. I don’t think he’s actually trying to make me me look bad, I’ve done everything that man could ever want from a fighter or an employee or someone that he pays money to watch. So I don’t think it’s necessarily anything personal against me, I think it’s people above him telling him they have to make that fight no matter what.
Med tre raka segrar via slag och en nummer tre rankning i organisationens lättviktsdivision finns det flertalet argument för att ”The Highlight” skulle få sig en chans på titeln. Som det står nu sker nästa titelmatch i april mellan mästaren Nurmagomedov och Tony Ferguson (25-3). Vad som väntar framöver för Gaethje återstår att se. För tillfället har han ingen match planerad, men en fight mot australiensiske Dan Hooker skulle vara om inget annat en intressant matchning rent kampmässigt.
