Efter sin senaste seger så menar Justin Gaethje att det endast är rätt att han själv får nästa titelchans i UFCs lättvikt.
Justin Gaethje vill ha titelmatch, för sportens integritet
Nyligen tog Justin Gaethje (23-3) hem en seger över Michael Chandler (22-7), vinsten var hans första sedan en förlust mot Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0) under slutet av det förra året. Efter vinsten över Chandler anser Gaethje att han behöver få en titelmatch mot vinnaren av mästaren Charles Oliveira (31-8-1) och Dustin Poirier (28-6-1) härnäst för att MMA som sport ska behålla sin integritet.
Gjort allt han kan
I en intervju med MMA Junkie kunde Gaethje förklara sin synpunkt. Han berättade då att han inte fått höra någonting från UFC ännu om att han ska få en titelmatch men att han har tillit till att sportens integritet garanterar honom en titelmatch. Detta då MMA skiljer sig från boxning i Gaethjes ögon genom att de bästa matcherna faktiskt blir av i MMA.
I don’t need to hear anything. I do not. I already know. I’m not going to – those are the things I can’t control, you know? I did what I had to do to control the situation. Outside that, I have no more control now. It would be all on the fans, the journalists, the integrity. That has to be questioned. People respect us because it’s not boxing because the best fights happen. I have to fight the winner of Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier to justify the integrity of this sport, and I’m comfortable with that. I don’t need to do anything else.
Islam Makhachev förtjänar inte en titelmatch
En annan fighter som siktar på titelmatch härnäst är Islam Makhachev (21-1) men enligt Gaethje finns de ingen chans att Makhachev förtjänar en titelmatch i nuläget.
If you say ‘no disrespect’ to him, you would have to understand how disrespectful you’d be being if you thought in any way that he deserved that, you know? He fought No. 14, went to No. 5, and he fought a late replacement with Dan Hooker. There’s no world in which, in the integrity of this sport, he would deserve, you know, or justify him doing that.
Osäker på om han kommer att närvara vid nästa titelmatch
Huruvida Gaethje kommer att vara på plats under nästa titelmatch i lättvikt, då Poirier och Oliviera ställs mot varandra är ännu osäkert enligt honom själv.
I don’t know. I’m a quarter-mile-at-a-time type of guy. I’ll be in Vegas next week. I’m cornering one of my teammates, Rafa Garcia. Then I’m going to go to the Raiders game, then I’m going to fly to Arizona, spend Thanksgiving with my family, and then I’m going to go do the Polar Express with my seven nieces and two nephews, and then I have no plans after that right now.
Huruvida det blir Gaethje eller Makhachev som får nästa chans att utmana om titeln återstår att se.
