Nu i helgen kommer Nate Diaz och Jorge Masvidal att ställas mot varandra i huvudmatchen på en av årets största galor, UFC 244. Under fredagen ägde invägningarna för galan rum och alla fighters utom en ska ha klarat vikten. Trots detta verkar det nu som att invägningen kan leda till konsekvenser för en av galans fighters, nämligen Kelvin Gastelum.
Efter att klarat vikten i sista minuten så började det dyka upp foton och videoklipp där det såg ut som att Gastelum lutar sig mot sin coach, Rafael Cordeiro, för att klara vikten. Nedan kan ni se ett exempel på där det detta påstås ska visas.

Bilderna och videoklippen har fått New Yorks idrottskomitté, NYSAC, att reagera och de har efter en tids utredning kommit fram till att händelserna kommer att leda till någon form av straff för Gastelum. I ett uttalande från NYSAC nämner de att de kommit fram till att Gastelum lutar sig mot sin coach, vilket står i strid mot vad som är tillåtet enligt deras policy. NYSAC kommer dock inte att stoppa matchen mellan Gastelum och Darren Till då deras bedömning är att Gastelum skulle klarat den tillåtna vikten för att få tävla om han inte lutat sig mot Cordeiro.
The Commission has reviewed the footage of Mr. Gastelum’s weigh-in. The Commission has determined that Mr. Gastelum made contact with another person while on the scale, a violation of the weigh in policy. In light of this violation, the Commission will pursue disciplinary action. At this time, the official weight determination will not be disturbed, and Mr. Gastelum will not be disqualified from competing in UFC 244, as the possible contact indicated in the video cannot be said to have materially impacted Mr. Gastelum’s weight to the extent that he would have exceeded the applicable weight limit allowable for competition in the match.
I NYSACs policy står det uttryckligen att ingen kontakt mellan den fighter som väger in och någon annan person eller något annat objekt än vågen får ske. Det var därmed i och med att han rörde sin coach som Gastelum bröt mot policyn.
When on the scale, the combatant shall stand still with his or her feet flat upon the scale and shall not make physical contact with any person or object other than the scale. No other person shall touch the scale when a combatant is in the act of weighing in. While on the scale, the combatant shall follow any direction issued by the Commission.
En missnöjd Cordeiro har även gått ut med ett uttalande till MMAFighting där han berättar att han stod bakom Gastelum för att se vikten och att han inte tror det skulle ha någon större effekt om Gastelum hade lutat sig mot honom.
People are tripping. I went there to check his weight. How am I going to lift him two pounds with my chest? They are crazy. They are tripping. It’s drama to sell the fight. There’s no way. There’s no way. There were two athletic commission officials there, I was in front of the whole world – that’s impossible. It doesn’t even cross my mind to try to break the law. The kid made weight, two pounds under. He did his job. He was the last one, he was sweating, running like a maniac, working hard, and got the job done. Everyone has a mouth and can say whatever they want.
