De som hoppas få se Nate Diaz (20-13) snart återvända till oktagonen mot Vicente Luque kan behöva dra ner sina förväntningar. Enligt Luques manager Ali Abdelaziz så är Diaz UFC-kontrakt nästan fullföljt och organisationen kommer troligen inte låta honom fightas innan han skrivit på ett nytt kontrakt.
Ali Abdelaziz: Nate Diaz är i kontraktskläm med UFC
Abdelaziz sade följande till MMA Fighting i en nylig intervju:
Listen, I believe Nate Diaz has one fight left on his contract. I like the [Luque vs. Diaz] fight. I think it’s a great fight. I think the UFC, it’s a business, they want to make money and I think Nate and Conor [McGregor] will make them so much money.
I think the only way the UFC will agree to make this fight happen [is] if Nate re-signs with the UFC. But I don’t know if this is good for Nate to re-sign with the UFC.
Diaz är helt klart en av UFC:s främsta stjärnor men har länge ansett sig vara underbetald och har ansetts som en obetydlig fighter av UFC-bossen Dana White till och med efter att han hjälpte till att krossa PPV-rekordet två gånger om vid fighterna mot Conor McGregor.
Då lönecheckar i miljonklassen är vanligt inom boxning så kan det vara en underdrift att det skulle ligga i Diaz intresse att inte skriva på ett nytt kontrakt med UFC:
At the end of the day, I understand the business. I understand the UFC’s point but they know we want the fight, Nate wants the fight but at the end of the day, they hold the contract. I can push as much as I can but I don’t know what they want to do. Vicente, 100 percent will fight Nate or Nick [Diaz].
UFC har tidigare visat att de har flera moraliskt tveksamma verktyg för att låta missnöjda fighters sitta inaktiva tills de skriver på ett nytt kontrakt och det är därför oklart när Diaz återvänder trots att han sagt sig vilja möta Luque i december.
