Efter den senaste förlusten så tror Michael Bisping att det kan hjälpa Darren Till att gå tillbaka ned till weltervikt.
Michael Bisping tror på flytt ned till weltervikt för Darren Till
Under helgen som gick fick den brittiska mellanviktaren Darren Till (18-4-1) se sig besegrad av Derek Brunson (23-7) i huvudmatchen på UFC Vegas 36. Detta innebar att Till nu enbart vunnit en av sina senaste fem matcher. Nu får Till tips av landsmannen och den tidigare mellanviktsmästaren i UFC, Michael Bisping (30-9). Detta då Bisping anser att Till bör återvända ned till den mindre viktklassen, weltervikt.
Under ett medverkande på den brittiska kanalen BT Sports efter galan så gav Bisping sin syn på vad Till bör göra härnäst. Han sade då att han anser att Till bör göra någonting annorlunda, vilket kan vara att gå ned en viktklass.
He needs to make some changes. I think perhaps a move back down to welterweight may help him. When you look at Derek Brunson compared to him, Derek Brunson is a much bigger guy. I’m not talking height-wise. Height-wise, they’re very similar. But when you look at the frame and with the frame and with that muscle comes a lot of strength. And certainly when you’re fighting guys like Derek Brunson where their whole M.O. is to take you down, of course technique comes into play, but a lot of what comes into play is strength. Once you get into these clinch positions it comes down to power, and Derek kind of outmuscled him in those situations as well.
Bisping föreslår byte av gym
Bisping föreslår även att Till ger sig av och tränar på ett nytt kampsportsgym någon annanstans med fokus på grappling.
I’m not suggesting he leaves Team Kaobon, but maybe go somewhere where they have a heavier influence on wrestling, certainly on jiu-jitsu as well. With absolute respect, the ground game could have been a little better there tonight. No shame in the takedowns, Derek Brunson is a strong wrestler. He’s built his entire career on that. But I thought when it hit the ground, I thought he could have done some things a little better.
Karriären är inte över
Bisping hade även ett uppmuntrande meddelande till Till om att han inte ska ge upp då karriären är långt ifrån över.
Darren obviously is heartbroken. I know how much this means to him. I know how much he put into this training camp. He was so focused, but it’s not over. It’s not over. Yes, it’s a bump in the road, it halts the dreams for now, the title aspirations. Forget about those for a little bit. He’s got to do some work. Darren, keep your chin up, mate. Listen, you’ve got it. You’ve got all the skills. You really do. You have all the potential to become a champion one day. Youth is on your side. But you’ve got to stay the course, you’ve got to stay focused. Do not give up on yourself. After all, somebody very, very smart once said: Quitters never win.
Vad som väntar Darren Till i UFC härnäst återstår än så länge att se.
