Michael Johnson visste att chansen var stor att Nate Diaz skulle försöka psyka honom inför deras match under UFC on FOX 17. De två mötte sedan varandra i Florida under lördagen och Diaz tog till allt möjligt trash talk mot Johnson under matchen, något som han inte var beredd på.
Johnson förlorade sedan via enhälligt domslut och erkänner att det Diaz sa påverkade honom.
Det här berättade Johnson, via ”MMAJunkie”:
It was an incredible experience, first off. Nate’s an incredible fighter. We went in there and gave you guys exactly what everybody wanted, and that was a ‘Fight of the Night’ performance. But you really don’t know how you’re going to react until he starts doing it. He sucked me in, so congrats to him.
Detta blev Johnsons andra raka förlust efter att han mötte Beneil Dariush under UFC Fight Night 74, då via delat domslut. Johnson stod innan dess med fyra raka vinster.
As far as unanimous (decision loss to Diaz), I really don’t think it should have been unanimous – but it was a really close fight. He really sucked me in with (the taunting). I got away from my game plan, and it is what it is.
But we’re going to put that behind us and move (on) and look forward to another big fight, hopefully.
