Nyligen kom det fram att bantamviktaren Holly Holm inte kommer att gå den match hon var inbokad att gå mot Aspen Ladd under UFC 235. Det kom dock aldrig någon officiell förklaring till varför matchen ställdes in och istället ryktades det att hon bokats in för att möta Amanda Nunes på UFC 237 i Brasilien.
Nu har en av Holms coacher, Mike Winkeljohn, gått ut i en intervju för att prata om varför matchen ställdes in och huruvida Holm faktiskt kommer att möta den regerande mästaren, Nunes, härnäst. Enligt Winkeljohn är det i nuläget osäkert om matchen mot Nunes kommer att bli av men att det var det som var anledningen till att matchen mot Ladd ställdes in.
I’m not sure, they are negotiating some things. All I know is the fight was called off because they want her to fight Nunes in Brazil. They have been talking to the UFC about it. Holly is all in and she is ready to fight anyone and anywhere.
Winkeljohn berättar även att trots Holms mål att möta Nunes så håller hon sig förberedd för att UFC ska boka om matchen mot Ladd.
We are still in training camp. We are acting like we are fighting Ladd at UFC 235. She’s back training. We are training for both of them, but the Nunes fight will be down the road. Right now, our focus is on Ladd fight, as it is tough on everybody, it definitely is not fair to Aspen Ladd that this happened, but I promise you it has nothing to do with Holly. She is ready and waiting to fight.
Om matchen mot Nunes blir av så berättade Winkeljohn att de inte ser henne som en lätt match och att Holm i huvudsak behöver fokusera på att kontra Nunes striking.
Nunes is fantastic. She is a scary fighter and Holly does her best when she gets the big test. Nunes has done amazing so that will be one marketable fight and one great fight. It is also scary on both sides because Holly can do things Amanda hasn’t seen before but Holly has to worry about Amanda’s striking. She can hit hard and is very explosive, she is also an extremely intelligent fighter.
