”Affärsmannen” T.J. Dillashaw skulle inte ha några större problem med att gå en rematch mot Cody Garbrandt.
”Atleten” Dillashaw har dock svårt att acceptera en sådan fight.
UFC:s bantamviktsmästare, som besegrade Garbrandt genom knockout i andra ronden vid UFC 217 i november förra året, vilket gjorde honom till mästare för andra gången, anser inte att hans rival förtjänar en omedelbar rematch. Dock är det tydligt att UFC vill att mötet blir av så Dillashaw är därför mentalt inställd på att möta Garbrandt vid UFC 227 den 4:e augusti i Los Angeles.
Dillashaw hade följande att säga i sin nyliga medverkan i The MMA Hour som ni kan se i klippet ovan:
I don’t think in any form does Cody deserve the rematch. But I’m happy to do it. The UFC obviously wants it. So I mean, if they want it, they’re going to pump this up. For whatever reason they want to put Cody in there.
I think it’s a great fight for me. He doesn’t deserve it whatsoever on the sport side of it. But I’m a businessman and I’m going to go out there and put him away.
Garbrandt som erövrade titeln från Dominick Cruz vid UFC 207 lyckades inte försvara sin titel en enda gång i och med förlusten mot Dillashaw. Matchen hade planerats under en lång tid och de båda har ett brokigt förflutet med ont blod som sträcker sig tillbaka till tiden som lagkamrater i Team Alpha Male och Dillashaw uppgav till Ariel Helwani i The MMA Hour att känslorna fortfarande inte lagt sig:
There’s still some built-up animosity, you know? It’s not going to just go away all of a sudden. You know he should be, he’s pushing for this title fight, he wants this, he wants that, but, in all reality, I mean, I don’t think he realizes how much is on the line. What’s he going to do after I knock him out two times in a row?
Dillshaw menade även att Garbrandt och hans team borde vara tacksamma att han är nådig nog att ge dem möjligheten till en rematch:
I think it is going to be a little bit different this time. He doesn’t have that much to say. What can he say? He just got knocked out, you know? The only thing he should be saying is ‘Thank you, T.J. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be at these press conferences. Thank you for giving me the chance to fight you again.
Because no, he doesn’t deserve it. It’s a completely different situation this time. He can’t be all big, bad, and tough. He just got knocked out. This is a little bit different. Yeah. I don’t think it is going to be as bad as it was last time. I don’t feel the team is going to be attacking me as much as well. You know? They looked really bad.
