Under 2019 så blev Kamaru Usman UFC:s nye welterviktsmästare. Detta efter en dominant seger mot Tyron Woodley. Nyligen så kunde UFC:s president Dana White hylla Usman som den bäste welterviktaren genom tiderna. Något som nu kritiseras av ovan nämnda Woodley.
Tyron Woodley menar på att Kamaru Usman inte är den bästa
Nyligen så kunde UFC:s president Dana White uttrycka att forne mästaren Kamaru Usman är den bäste welterviktaren genom tiderna. Detta har kritiserats utav Tyron Woodley som Kamaru vann bältet från under 2019. Woodley menar på att Usman som stod för fem titelförsvar inte är den bäste. Han betonar att Usman titelförsvar var mot dom som kunde snacka mest. Tyron menar på att han själv mötte äkta utmanare men som var tysta samt unga talanger. Slutligen så menar Woodley på att Usman är den welterviktsmästare som varit bäst på att fjäska.
“Kamaru is not the greatest welterweight of all time, I’m the realest. I had the realest route. I had the realest reign. I was the person who dealt with the most stuff behind the scenes and still managed to win, that I don’t even speak about. I fought all the top contenders that were not big trash talkers. Nobody wanted to say a bad word about Demian Maia, Robbie Lawler or ‘Wonderboy’ [Stephen Thompson]. I fought all the up and coming guys. Even Usman and Colby [Covington] and [Darren] Till, those are all up and coming guys. He’s not the greatest welterweight of all time. What he is, he is the one that kissed the most ass.”
Woodley blev mästare under 2016 då han knockade Robbie Lawler. Hans första titelförsvar var en oavgjord match mot Stephen Thompson. Woodley vann sedan returmötet mot Thompson och följde upp det med segrar i titelförsvar mot Demian Maia och Darren Till. Under 2019 så förlorade han mot Usman. Den senare kunde försvara titeln två gånger vardera mot Colby Covington och Jorge Masvidal samt en gång mot Gilbert Burns.
Anser att Usman fjäskade
Vidare så beskriver Tyron hur hans forne motståndare fjäskade för Dana White genom att hänga runt honom i Las Vegas och ta varje möjlighet han fått. Woodley betonar dock att Usman trots allt är en bra fighter.
”He’s the one ‘Oh let’s have uncle Dana on my podcast, ’Let me accept every fight. Let me go to Vegas and just sit and loiter in his office every week and just try to stay in his good graces and just accept whatever offer. If you do that long enough, you will be one of these guys that end up in the category where you’ll now be rewarded because you took last minute notice fights, you fought injured, you didn’t complain about money, you didn’t ask for more, you didn’t ask questions, you always was trying to be goody two shoes and brown nosing. So yeah, he’s the biggest brown noser in the welterweight division. He is a good fighter though.”
Anser att han borde ha fått ett returmöte
Woodley menar på att tidigare welterviktsmästare som George St Pierre och Matt Hughes båda var bättre än Kamaru. Han berättar att Usman klart och tydligt besegrade honom själv men att han hade en dålig dag. Tyron betonar att flera fighters fick ett returmöte mot Usman men att han själv aldrig fick chansen. Slutligen så menar den forne mästaren att han skulle ha besegrat Kamaru nio av tio gånger.
“When you really think about the era they did it, it’s Georges No. 1, I would say it’s Matt Hughes No. 2. Just because we looked up to Matt Hughes and he won nine times when it was a specialist sport, wrestlers versus strikers versus grapplers versus that. We got a chance to sit back and watch those two guys and then kind of carve out our deal. I would say me and Usman are probably tied for third. You can’t say I’m over him because he beat me but I never got a rematch. He fought a shit hole of a version of me. I was going through so much crap in life. I don’t even remember the fight. I never went back and watched the fight. I just feel like with his rematch history, Colby got to fight him twice, [Jorge] Masvidal got to fight him twice. Leon Edwards got a chance to fight him twice. I’m the only one that didn’t get a chance to fight him twice because they knew that 9 out of 10 times, if we fought, I’m going to win 9 out of 10 times.”
