UFC 249 som skulle ha ägt rum den 18:e april i Brooklyn, New York och ha innehållit en efterlängtad titelmatch i lättvikt mellan mästaren Khabib Nurmagomedov och Tony Ferguson. På grund utav corona viruset så blev inte så fallet.
Flera delstater i USA förbjuder sportevenemang och flera länder instiftade in och utreseförbud. Vilket påverkade mästaren Nurmagomedov som befann sig i sitt hemland Ryssland.
UFC:s president Dana White uttalade sig dock flera gånger att galan skulle bli av och att man letade efter en plats att håla galan. Man tog även in en ersättare för Nurmagomedov. Fjärde rankade lättviktaren Justin Gaethje planerades att möta Ferguson om interimtiteln i lättvikt.
Galan blev dock inte av då man inte lyckades hitta en plats för galan.
Det uppkom sedan flera rykten om att galan skulle flyttas till den 9:e maj och slås ihop med den planerade galan UFC 250 som var ursprungligen planerad att hållas i Sao Paulo, Brasilien.
Nu har UFC gått ut med att UFC 249 kommer att bli av den 9:e maj och galan kommer att äga rum i Jacksonville, Florida. Dana White gick ut med detta under ett pressmeddelande och att man planerar att hålla tre galor där 9, 13 och 16:e maj.

My team is ready to go and the fighters are excited to get back in there with these back-to-back events.”

Health and safety protocols will be in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all individuals who are helping to make these events possible. Den delade huvudmatchen blir en titelmatch i bantamvikt där mästaren Henry Cejudo gör sitt första titelförsvar i den viktklassen.
