Wilson Reis 2018 har startat väldigt tungt och den forne flugviktsutmanaren använder nu dessa motgångar som motivation inför sin match mot John Moraga inatt på UFC on Fox 29.
Reis skulle redan möta Moraga på UFC Belem i Brasilien den 3:e februari men ansåg att det var för lite tid att förbereda sig för matchen.
Den 1:e februari ringer Reis mananager och berättar att UFC är intresserade att boka om matchen mot Moraga på UFC on Fox 29 i Glendale den 14:e april. Wilson accepterade erbjudandet men bara 24 timmar senare ringer telefonen igen.
I detta samtal får Reis reda på att hans yngre 30-åriga bror Wagnar Araujo dött i en motorcykelolycka i Sao Paulo.
Reis berättar för MMA Fighting:
It was a really difficult experience,
I used my training camp to get over this tough moment, and at the same time, move on with my life. Emotionally, I’m more motivated because my younger brother was one of the happiest and proud people when I signed with the UFC.
I had a deal with my brother, ‘every time you have a new fight in the UFC, will you tell me first hand?’ After my coaches and manager, he was the first person to know about my fights. He always loved knowing about it.
Unfortunately, the day after I told him about this fight, I was informed of his death. It’s difficult, but that motivated me a lot. This fight will be a homage to him, for sure.
Wagnar lämnade efter sig sin fru och en son på 1 år som Reis är gudfader till. Wilson stannade i Brasilien i två veckor för att hjälpa familjen samtidigt som han fortsatte att träna för sin kommande match.
When I came back to California, I told my coaches that I was good to continue training,
This is a big motivation for me, a good distraction from everything that happened.
