Under nattens UFC on FOX 31 lyckades den svenske fightern Jack Hermansson ta hem segern mot amerikanen Gerald Meerschaert via submission i första ronden. Matchen var Hermanssons 7:e match i UFC och hans 2:a raka seger.
Efter segern ställde Hermansson upp på en intervju med MMAJunkie backstage där han bland annat berättade om att han gärna går matcher så ofta som möjligt så länge han kan hålla sig skadefri.
I’m one of those guys that want to be active all the time. If I can decide I would fight six times a year. Unfortunately I injured myself in my two last fights. Now I don’t have any injuries and are just going to celebrate christmas and then I’m gonna write to the UFC and get a new fight. I’m in my prime now, I wanna climb as fast as possible. I want to beat the record, I could go 7 or 8 times a year. For sure, as long as I don’t have any injuries that put me out there I want to get in there. For me, I train twice a day, 6 days a week, all year round. I don’t like to rest. It’s not in my mind, I want to improve. I want to do this for as long as I’m gonna do it and I wanna do this for as much as I can while I’m doing it.
Efter matchen passade Hermansson på att utmana de två rankade mellanviktarna Brad Tavares och Elias Theodorou. Hermansson berättade även att anledningen till just den utmaningen var att han såg det som matcher han realistiskt sett skulle kunna få.
I think those guys are ranked, they are good fighters with good records, well respected and they are still in my reach. You know I could call out the champ but I know that it’s not realistic and that I’m not going to get that fight. But I think these are two realistic fighters to face.
Hermansson berättade även att han ser mellanvikten som en av de svårare viktklasserna i UFC men att han samtidigt har vad som krävs för att nå toppen.
That’s the thing with middleweight. You got many divisions in the UFC with good depth but you know the top in the middleweight that’s a rough bunch of fighters to push through. It’s a tough division. I think I can handle them all for sure. I just need to go in there with a right mind and with the right gameplan. And I think I’m gonna give them a great fight and I think I have the skills to beat them all and be the champ as well.
