I helgen kommer Dominick Cruz att försvara bantamviktsbältet mot Urijah Faber under UFC 199 i Kalifornien och det har gått sedan 5 år sedan de senast möttes men känner fortfarande samma avsky mot varandra.
Under gårdagen presskonferens via telefon hettade det till när Cruz kritiserade Fabers fightingstil och hävdade då att ingenting har ändrats de senaste åren.
Det här hade Cruz att säga till Faber:
You don’t throw combinations, you don’t mix things up, you throw one punch at time, you’re one kick at a time, you go for a guillotine, you’re an overhand right, you’re straight with the left hook – I could go all day breaking your fights down, I’ve been doing it for years. I was retired basically when you said you were competing against the best. I came back and faced the guy you ran from up a weight class. You were scared of T.J. Dillashaw.
The first time I met him through a guy that is in the UFC still, Eddie Wineland. It was all the way back in 2007, and he just had a smug arrogance about him right from the start and just didn’t like him. He probably felt the same about me, and it just never really stopped from there.
Cruz segrade mot Faber via ett enhälligt domslut under UFC 132 i juli 2011 och har sedan dess gått tre matcher. Cruz skadade sedan sig och blev tvungen att lämna ifrån sig bantamviktsbältet 2014. Faber har under tiden gått hela 11 matcher och känner att han därför kommer att få ett övertag.
Cruz håller dock inte med om detta:
It doesn’t really matter about how many fights I’ve had because I had good fights and I fought the best guys in the division every time I fought, I know what I am, I know what I’m capable of. I know how I mix things up, I know the things I’m good at and I know I’m better than him. It doesn’t matter how many fights he’s had because the ones that could have gotten him a title, he lost.
Anybody in the top-5, he lost, or anybody in the top-3, he lost – I’m the champion. I’m the best in this division and I always will be. He’s not going to be able to compete with me. I’m going to put a clinic on him just like I did last time.
