Conor McGregor bevisade under gårdagens dominanta vinst mot Diego Brandao att han är ett namn att räkna med i UFC:s fjäderviktsdivision. Etter matchen var amerikanen Dustin Poirier snabbt ute med att utmana irländaren.
I en intervju med Bleacher Report berättar Poirier att han tycker att Conor är en bra fighter och att en match mot Conor skulle passa honom fint i väntan på en titelmatch.
He is a solid fighter and a good athlete. My next fight will be my 11th in the UFC, and it would be his fourth. That said, I’m a fighter and don’t like to pick who I fight. If I had my choice, I’d be fighting for the belt. But I can’t sit back and say I want to fight Aldo, Mendes or Cub, because I’ve already said all of this stuff, and the UFC is going to do what they want to do. For me as a fighter, I want to whip McGregor’s ass for talking so much. I don’t like that. I work hard and I take this very seriously. This is my life and it would be a pleasure for me to beat a guy who believes in himself like that.
Poirier fortsätter med att säga att han anser sig vara bättre än Conor i de flesta aspekter.
Besides my wrestling and jiu-jitsu being better, I believe my boxing and kickboxing are better than his. He just talks a lot and gets a lot of publicity. And good for him, but I would love to whip him. Like I said, this is my life and any challenges like this excite me.
Conor som nu har tre raka vinster i UFC berättade för MMAJunkie.com att han mer än gärna möter Dustin, detta trots att han tror att Dustin bara ger ett sken av att vilja möta Conor. Enligt Conor ska Dustin i själva verket vara för rädd för att möta Conor.

Enligt rykten ska UFC:s VD Dana White sagt att Conors nästa match kommer att äga rum på UFC 178, där svenske Alexander Gustafsson kommer möta Jon Jones. Vem Conor ska möta framgick inte, men då både Poirier och Conor vill möta varandra är den matchningen inte omöjlig.
