Under helgens gala möts fjäderviktarna Cub Swanson och Frankie Edgar, detta är dock inte första gången de möts då de tidigare möttes i november 2014. Swanson, som senast förlorade mot Brian Ortega via submission, berättar i en intervju med MMAJunkie hur han blev förvånad när det visade sig att han skulle få chansen att möta Edgar återigen.
I was definitely surprised. I was asked about this recently and I was just talking about how of all the rematches I’ve anticipated it’s been Aldo Lamas, Max. Those are the guys that were on my radar. For some reason, Frankie was always on a different path, fighting different people. When his name came up I was kind of startled, it took me by surprise, but I was like yeah I’d love to do that. I guess he just wanted to fight here back in his hometown, and I get it, Coming off a loss, you feel like, man, I just made a mistake and I want to get back in there. The last time I fought Frankie and I lost, I just wanted to get right back in there and that’s when I fought Max. You know, sometimes it works out for you and sometimes it doesn’t.
Swanson fick även frågan om hur han ser på det faktum att Edgar kommer tillbaka så relativt kort tid efter att han blev knockad.
That’s for him to stress about, not for me. I mean if I got in there thinking I am gonna get a six out of ten Frankie and he shows up as a ten out of ten, I’m gonna get beat up, so that would be dumb of me. I can only think in my mind that it was a fluke or that it was just one of those fights, that he got lucky and that the best Frankie Edgar is going to show up.
Swanson blev även tillfrågad hur tänker kring sin senaste motståndare, Brian Ortegas, framgångar.
I feel like I was dominating that fight and that I just made a stupid mistake. That comes with my risky style. After him and Frankie fought and he won, the fans changed their minds. They made it not as big of a deal. The fans were like, but Cub was handing it to him. So you know it definitely changed things I guess it gave me new life along with the UFC’s offer. I didn’t really expect to come back, yet here I am.
