Under måndagen meddelade Stephen ”Wonderboy” Thompson (15-1-1) via sitt Instagramkonto att han skrivit på kontraktet för re-matchen mot Tyron Woodley (16–3–1) för UFC 209, och allt som behövdes nu var Woodleys underskrift. Den regerande welterviktsmästaren lät inte fansen vänta allt för länge, utan berättar via sin podcast ”The Morning Wood Show” att även han ha skrivit på kontraktet, samtidigt som han skickade en syrlig peak till Wonderboy och dennes fans.

Woodley och Thompson möttes på UFC 205 i New York i november i en match som slutade oavgjord efter att Woodley varit nära på att avsluta Wonderboy. Efter matchen ryktades att en direkt re-match skulle äga rum, men Woodley har sedan dess ryktats möta ett flertal andra motståndare, däribland den regerande mellanviktsmästaren Michael Bisping.
