Stephen Thompson tackade nej till att möta Shavkat Rakhmonov
Stephen ”Wonderboy” Thompson (16-6) blev erbjuden att möta Shavkat Rakhmonov (16-0), men valde att tacka nej för att han inte vill möta en till grappler.

Stephen Thompson har inte synts till i oktagonen sedan han förlorade ett domslut mot Belal Muhammed (21-3) i december förra året. ”Wonderboy” har sedan dess vilat och läkt ihop lite skador och säger att han nu är redo att ta en match igen. Han berättar att UFC har erbjudit honom att möta Shavkat Rakhmonov, men att han tackade nej. Så här sa Thompson till BJpenn.com i torsdags.
“The UFC was talking about maybe Shavkat, he just beat Neil Magny. I was like look, ‘UFC, give me someone that is going to want to strike with me.’ I haven’t turned down the last two guys who are grapplers, one of the top grapplers in the welterweight division, didn’t turn him down,”
Thompson brukar inte tacka nej till matcher
I vanligt fall brukar inte Thompson tacka nej till matcher, men efter att ha mött två grapplers och förlorat mot båda är han inte intresserad av att möta en tredje. I stället vill han ha någon som står upp med honom.
”It doesn’t make sense for me to face another heavy grappler. Let me work on my craft a little more, especially when it comes to wrestling,”
“They were pushing it, but it just doesn’t make sense, the fans didn’t want to see it either. They are like ‘dude, give Stephen a striker, someone who is going to strike with him.’ It is what it is, that is not a fight that interests me at this point.”
Thompson nämner att Kevin Holland (23-7) var på bordet. Men tyvärr verkar inte det mötet bli av då ”Wonderboy” vill gå match i Madison Square Garden och Holland vill inte vänta så länge. Vi får helt enkelt se vad UFC kan gräva upp för motståndare åt Thompson.
