Tungviktsmästaren i UFC, Stipe Miocic, föärvsarade sin titel för 3:e gången och har stått som tungviktsmästare längst i divisionens historia. Efter sin vinst mot Francis Ngannou, utropade sig Miocic som den bäste tungviktaren någonsin.
It was the Stipe show tonight. It wasn’t about him. It was about me, because I’m the champ. I broke the record. I’m the best.
Inför titelmatchen, kretsade media och marknadsföringen kring fransk-kamerunske Francis Ngannou och många trodde att Ngannou skulle bli titulerad nya mästaren i tungvikt efter matchen. Miocic har uttryckt att organisationen UFC viljat se Francis Ngannou som tungviktsvdivisionens nye kapten. Utfallet blev tvärtom, och Miocic tog bältet ur UFC-presidenten Dana Whites händer efter vinsten och lät sin coach spänna det runt hans midja:
My dude. He respects me, and I respect him.
När Miocic fick frågan om White, som var ansvarig för att kampanjen kretsade kring Ngannou, saknar respekt för honom, svarade Miocic följande:

När det försöktes spekulera lite kring Miocics närmaste framtid och eventuella motstånd, bemöttes frågorna med frustration från Miocic. Dana White har uttryckt en vilja om en supermatch mellan Miocic och Daniel Cormier, som också försvarade sin titel under helgens UFC 220:
Listen, yeah. Right now, I don’t care. I just got done fighting, like, 45 minutes ago, 25 hard minutes with a tough dude. I don’t really care what’s going on right now. I just want to go home, see my dog and hang out with my wife.
Miocic berättade även lite om sin motståndares slag, vilka Stipe absorberade ett par gånger under matchen:
He definitely hits hard. There’s no question. It’s the heavyweight division. Do you want to get hit by him? Exactly. It sucked.
Look at my eye. One punch. It was my own fault; I stayed in the line. But I hit him a lot more than he hit me, and that’s why I still have the belt.
Miocic berättar också om sin strategi mot Ngannou, och bekänner att strategin var att trötta ut sin motståndare och tömma honom på motivation:
He’d never been there. Why not? He caught me in the first round a couple of times, but after that, I took the will out of him. That’s what I do.
Listen, man, I’ve got the fighting spirit. It’s going to take a lot more to take me out. Ford Escort, Ford F-150, I don’t really care. I’m going to keep coming. He’s a tough dude, no question. He’s got a great career ahead of him. But I’m going to keep coming.
F*ck yeah, I do (feel like the best ever),” Miocic said. “I had a killer’s row to get to it. I had a hard path to get to the title, and I had a hard path to defend the title. Nothing’s ever easy, but I’ve never had an easy road.
Miocic gjorde sitt 3:e raka titelförsvar. Francis Ngannou har, i och med förlusten, besegrats för första gången i UFC.
