Ända sedan COVID-19 började ställa till med problem för UFC och dess ’fighters’ har organisationen försökt hitta sätt att arrangera galor. UFC-presidenten Dana White har vid flera tillfällen berättat att internationella ’fighters’ kommer erbjudas matcher på någonting organisationen kallat för ’Fight Island’. Idag offentliggjordes platsen för dessa galor.
Inledde samarbete 2019
2019 inledde UFC ett samarbete med ’Abu Dhabi Department of Culture & Tourism’ (DCT Abu Dhabi). Kontraktet löper över fem år och innebär bland annat att organisationen ska arrangera galor i Abu Dhabi under varje kalenderår. Nu har samarbetet intensifierats och UFC har valt att placera ’Fight Island’ på Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
I ett pressmeddelande berättade organisationen om hur anläggningen kommer se ut.
To accommodate existing public health guidelines, DCT Abu Dhabi will create a safety zone within the nearly ten square mile (25 km2) Yas Island that will include an arena, hotel, training facilities, and dining establishments. This safety zone will only be open to UFC athletes and their coaches; UFC staff and other event personnel; and Yas Island employees who are necessary to ensure the operation of the facilities.
UFCs senaste besök till Abu Dhabi ägde rum i samband med UFC 242, som gick av stapeln i september 2019. I galans huvudmatch försvarade lättviktsmästaren Khabib Nurmagomedov sin titeln mot Dustin Poirier.
Högsta standard gällande säkerhet
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, ordförande för DCT Abu Dhabi, berättade att man har arbetat nära med det politiska styret, för att säkerställa allas säkerhet. Både säkerheten för ’fighters’, tränare och UFC-personal, men även för områdets invånare.

White menar att platsen är perfekt för att arrangera ’Fight Island’-galorna.
We came up with the idea of having fights on ‘Fight Island’ because we needed a destination to hold international events during the global pandemic. Abu Dhabi has been an amazing location to hold fights over the past ten years and it is the perfect place for these events.
Organisationen kommer anordna fyra galor på Yas Island i juli månad. Först ut är UFC 251, som kommer äga rum den andra helgen i juli.
