Khamzat Chimaev (9-0) fick dra sig ur matchen mot Leon Edwards (18-3) efter att läkarna bedömt att hans lungor inte återhämtat sig tillräckligt från COVID-19. Efter detta kom rykten om att UFC ville ersätta svensken den januari med fighters som Michael Chiesa eller Vicente Luque. Nu uppger dock UFC-bossen Dana White att svenskens match mot Edwards bara kommer skjutas fram ytterligare.
Matchen får senare datum
White uttalade sig som följande till MMA-reportern The Schmo:
I don’t know why, I just saw Ali [Abdelaziz] came out today and said he had Covid.
I don’t know why he wasn’t telling people that but for some reason, he didn’t want people to know he had Covid.
The doctor told him when he went back to the gym, I guess he was having some problems with his lungs, Khamzat was.
They told him to take some more time off and not start training until early January.
Istället kommer UFC:s andra gala för i år att få en ny huvudmatch:
We are going to push that fight back and we are going to do Magny vs Chiesa as the main event.
Edwards hade hoppats få en ersättare för Chimaev då han var angelägen om att fightas efter att inte fightats sedan juli 2019 men han får nu bita ihop ett tag till.
