Under helgen som gick så lyckades welterviktsmästaren Kamaru Usman att försvara sin titel första gången genom att besegra Colby Covington i huvudmatchen på UFC 245. Härnäst har han nämnt att han ser den brittiska welterviktaren Leon Edwards som en värdig motståndare men en annan motståndare som Usman nu blivit tillfrågad om är den forne dubbelmästaren i fjäder- och lättvikt, Conor McGregor.
Usman fick frågan om en match mot irländaren av TMZ efter en tweet från McGregor som kan ha tolkats som att han är ute efter att erövra titeln i weltervikt.

På frågan om hur han ser på en match mot McGregor var Usman dock tydlig med att han inte ser det som särskilt intressant och jämförde den potentiella matchen med när McGregor utmanade lättviktsmästaren Khabib Nurmagomedov.
He must want to die. I mean, what? He must want to die. This is not 145, 155. You saw what Khabib did to him. Like, oh my god, it wouldn’t even be fair if I fought Conor. So, much respect to Conor for what he’s done for this sport and transcended it but nah, this ain’t what you want. Just sit down little man, sit down. Learn to walk before you can run because I would hurt that guy.
Efter att ha verkat ointresserad av att möta McGregor så fick Usman frågan om vem han annars vill möta och han svarade då att en drömmotståndare vore den forne welterviktsmästaren Georges St-Pierre.
Honestly, I’m an equal opportunity guy. I don’t really care who it is. If I had to choose, of course I wants Georges. I want GSP. One more win and I tie him for most consecutive wins and how sweet would that be to actually get that win off of him. That would be an extremely exciting fight because I think we are the two hybrids of the welterweight division. Since the welterweight division has been going on, I think he and I are the two hybrids. When he came on the scene, he could do it all – systematically break guys down to make the fight look easy. I just think that I’m a better level of that. I’ve got the power, I’ve got the cardio, I’ve got the strength, I’ve got the speed. So I think it’s a big, big, big fight, and all due respect to Georges, but I think I finish him.
Usman mötte Covington i huvudmatchen på UFC 245 och stod då som segrare via knockout i slutskedet av den 5:e ronden. UFC 245 ägde rum den 15:e december i Las Vegas, USA.
