UFC-fightern Khamzat Chimaev (12-0) hade en tuff viktnedgång inför sin huvudmatch mot Nate Diaz vid UFC 279. Svensken kom att missa weltervikten med 7,5 lbs vilket ledde till en match mot Kevin Holland. Nu sågas Chimaev av Sean O’Malley.
Sean O’Malley tror inte Khamzat Chimaev kan klara weltervikten
Chimaevs tränare Andreas Michael menade att problemet med att nå vikten hade att göra med svenskens tuffa kamp mot COVID-19 i slutet av 2020 och att fighterns kropp inte riktigt varit sig lik sedan dess. Oavsett anledningen är många tveksamma till hur hållbart det är för Chimaev att fortsätta fightas inom weltervikt. Detta inkluderar UFC-bantamviktaren Sean O’Malley.
O’Malley sade följande till sin tränare Tim Welsh på i deras Youtube-kanal:
When was the last time Khamzat made 170? Actually. Not the last two fights, it’s probably been a year.
(His next opponent) can’t be Colby, he’s not gonna make 170. I just don’t see him making 170. I don’t even know if the UFC will book him at 170.
Tror inte svensken vill fightas inom mellanvikt
Den 28-årige Chimaev har varit framgångsrik både i UFC:s weltervikt och mellanvikt. O’Malley är dock skeptisk till att Chimaev kommer satsa inom mellanvikt då det är en mycket tuffare viktlass för honom:
It doesn’t seem like he wants to go up to 185, which is kind of surprising. ‘Cause he is big, and he’s super f—ng skilled. And he’s gotta be confident, but…
I don’t know if he wants those big fights up there. They’re big boys.
He gets you down, you guys play on the ground for a little bit. Second round, you guys are on the feet, you guys are a little more tired. Those top, top-level guys aren’t gonna get subbed super easy.
Sean O’Malley ser dock mellanviktsklassen som den enda logiska vägen framåt för Chimaev:
I think (Chimaev’s next fight has) gotta be at 185. If you’re the UFC, you can’t risk him going to 170 again and him not making weight. Can’t risk that.
