Francis Ngannou är ny tungviktsmästare

Dana White: ”If I’m Jon Jones and watching this fight at home, I’m moving to 185”
Mycket av presskonferensen handlade om Francis Ngannous dominanta prestation när han tog över tungviktsbältet från Stipe Miocic via knockout i den första ronden. Dana fick frågan om Jon Jones möjligtvis kan vara Ngannous näste motståndare efter att denne, via Twitter, hintat om att han vill möta Ngannou.
”If I’m Jon Jones and watching this fight at home, I’m moving to 185…You can say that you want to fight somebody, but do you really want to? If Jon Jones really wants the fight, Jon Jones knows he can get the fight. All he’s got to do is call and do it. As I said, it’s easy to say you want the fight, but if you really want the fight. Francis Ngannou is the heavyweight champion of the world right now. All he’s got to do is pick up the phone and call Hunter and we can get the deal done.”

Även Ngannou fick frågan om en potentiell match med Jon Jones, och även han var positivt inställt till ett möte med den forne mästaren. Han var också noga med att påpeka att han vill vara en aktiv titelinnehavare, något som de tidigare mästarna i divisionen fått kritik för, då tiden mellan varje titelmatch har varit lång.
“Obviously, Jon Jones makes more sense for me,Either way, I’m going to fight. If Jon Jones doesn’t come to heavyweight, the division has to move. As the new heavyweight champion, I decided to move on and put more activity in the division than it has in the past two or three years.”
Dana White hade tidigare under presskonferensen nämnt att han tycker att Miocic förtjänar en returmatch.
“Personally, no, I don’t feel a need to right now. He said I won’t be a champion until he’s retired, so maybe he’ll retire. But if not, I’ll still be down to fight him. I lost against him and he stands as the greatest heavyweight of all time, so it makes sense for me just to fight him if needed.”, sa Ngannou.
Vicente Luque: ”I wanted to fight Masvidal”
Vicente Luque tog en meriterande seger mot sin ”barndomsidol” Tyron Woodley, och nu tittar brasilianaren uppåt i divisionen.
”The fight I really wanted, Kamaru took it. I wanted to fight Masvidal, I think that fight will be a banger and our styles match up really well. That´s why I also called out Nate Diaz, I think our styles match up perfectly and if he is interested in coming out of retirement I will pass on fighting a top-5 and I will fight him. But my focus is on the top of the division.
